Team Virtuo is very pleased and proud to announce that the NWTTA has selected Virtuo CMS Technologies as their new Web services provider.

The Association represents over 800 Teachers in the Territory. It’s mandate is to be  “the professional voice of educators as they provide quality education to Northwest Territories students.” These enhancements and web management tools will allow NWTTA to effectively meet the needs and wants of their members as identified through a survey conducted in the latter part of 2009. Two major objectives were identified and are the motivation for this initiative:

1.   “Support members’ needs in regards to content and ease of use”

2.   “Enable efficiency and effectiveness for office personnel”

The project includes several elements:

·         Enhancing the look and feel of the association’s web presence  for easier and more intuitive navigation

·         Migrating the site to a new Content Management System to facilitate regular maintenance of the web presence

·         Deploying a Membership Management System allowing members to serve themselves thus reducing demands on NWTTA staff and other resources.

Work on the project is scheduled to begin immediately targeting a launch in the spring of 2010.

Showing our support for Team Canada. 18-Dec-09 01:00pm Comment

As a proud Canadian company, Team Virtuo supports all our dedicated athletes participating in the upcoming Olympics. Being Ottawa Senators fans we really want to see Mike Fisher be part of that team. All athletes deserve our support. Their dedication and work ethic is one that we should all hope to achieve in our own chosen field of endeavour.

The Olympic motto "Citius Altius Fortius" (Swifter, Higher, Stronger) describes it very well.  An athlete's motivation is an innate desire to exceed expectations.
We, Team Virtuo, strive to model this dedication at everything we do and we invite you to do the same. Imagine if the business world functionned on the same high principles of achievement, fairness and a desire to exceed.

That is our motivation, please make it yours.

Thank you for showing your support.

Your website is your store 11-Sep-09 12:00pm Comment

Brick and mortar stores have been around since… well forever. So it makes sense to model a virtual store on the time tested principles that make these successful.

Retail stores (like websites) have to compete to attract attention and compel people to enter the store, browse around, maybe ask a few questions and eventually purchase something if they find what they are looking for.

According to experts in the area of retail store design, there are four key principles to a good result: External signage, Store layout, Product categories management, Internal ambiance.

If you think about it, it makes complete sense to model a website on these same principles. Whether you are actually allowing your visitors to select products, arrange for shipping and pay online doesn’t really matter. Every website is a store.

In 2009 in fact, 80% of all purchases, even the ones at brick and mortar locations, start with a web search of some kind. People research their purchase online first and, if they can’t easily find and purchase the desired item online, they will physically got to a store that their web search has showed having what they’re looking for.

How do the four key principles translate to a website?

External signage: The purpose here is to attract attention and get people in the store. If they can’t see your sign, they will never come through the door. This sounds a lot like online advertising, banner adds, Google AdWords campaigns, using social media tools like Facebook Fan Pages or Twitter micro blog to promote your site and search engine optimization.

Store layout: You want to make sure that the major calls to action, i.e. the actions you most want your customers, members or parents to take, like “buy now”, “register now” “subscribe to bus cancellation list”, etc.,  are easily accessible and are located where they can’t avoid seeing them.

Product categories management: We’ve all been in stores where there is no apparent order to anything. The visit is frustrating and usually results in no purchase. Make sure that your web content is well organized and structured in a logical manner.

Internal ambiance: The visit must be pleasant so that visitors will want to stay and keep browsing. You can achieve this with an attractive design, quality images and no annoying or intrusive animations.

Is your website your store or service access point?

What can you do now to ensure that you will have a more user-centric approach to your website for your “Store patrons” to feel more apt to serve themselves?

Yours truly,
Bernie Charlebois & Alain Vachon
